Editing for Christian Authors Outside the Mainstream

Nonfiction outside the mainstream
Nephilim, the Divine Council, pre-trib prophecy, the blurry and the paranormal, spiritual warfare… if it’s a bit fringe and you need an open mind who can bring it back to scripture and ensure Biblical accuracy, I’m your gal.

Fiction that casts a long shadow
Not necessarily “Christian fiction,” but well-written fiction that promotes a Godly worldview and strives to glorify the Lord through excellent storytelling. If that’s what you write, I’m here to help you make it your best.

Editing, proofreading and coaching
Whether you need a deep analysis from an experienced eye, coaching and handholding to wrangle your manuscript into shape, or to have your text gone through with a fine-toothed comb, I can help.
About Jean
I’m Jean Marie Bauhaus, 7x published novelist, freelance writer with a long career writing for major brands and publications including Forbes.com, Chewy, Hill’s Pet and CareCredit, and an experienced freelance editor who has also been on the receiving end of having her work edited.
I know what it’s like to have my writing eviscerated, have my voice stomped flat, and have a piece of my soul die a little as a result. I also know the joy of a great edit that makes my writing sing.
The latter is the sort of editor I strive to be. I don’t work for a publisher or an editorial team who pays me to force your writing to fit a certain mold — I work for YOU. I recognize that your book, story or article is YOUR baby, and after so much labor your baby deserves to SHINE.
I’m also a Christian and devoted student of the Word with an affinity for Bible prophecy and eschatology, the Blurry-verse, the works of Dr. Michael Heiser, and fringe theology. As long as your work treats scripture as the inspired, authoritative word of God and upholds the gospel and the person and work of Jesus Christ, I can keep an open mind and I’m comfortable handling topics that other editors might meet with skepticism or consternation.
Some of the greatest Christian books of our time were not written as Christian books, but simply written by Christians who sought to glorify God through using their talents to tell a great story. I don’t need the books I read or edit to be sanitized for my protection, but I do want to read books that are not afraid to call good the things that God calls good and to call evil the things that God calls evil while dealing honestly with the human condition.

I’m a fan of speculative fiction of all kinds, including horror, as well as mystery and suspense, thrillers and true crime. But I also enjoy sweet romance and fiction that makes me think and pulls at my emotions.

I can definitely recommend Jean’s services as an editor. She was pleasant all the while, didn’t try to ‘tyrannize’ the story, and demonstrated a depth of thought about writing and the English language, which is in my opinion what distinguishes a proper editor from a mere beta-reader. To take the example most pertinent for my instance, she made note of anachronistic/out of place vernacular, which I, being both young and ESL, would have never noticed, but could play a significant role in the story’s tone.

I got my sample edit back of the first chapter to my Jules Verne meets Mark Twain steam balloon adventure story. Jean Marie Bauhaus did an awesome job! Clean and logical edits to help the story flow! I would like to continue using her in the future.
